Northstar V3 Overview: Instructional Management
Introduction
The instructional management section supports day-to-day instructional activities and academic tracking. In this initial release, users can access an instructor dashboard that provides a high-level summary of student program and progress data, along with tools to enter class roll attendance and grades. These foundational features offer a streamlined starting point for managing instructional workflows, with additional instructional functionality planned for future releases.
In this release, you can:
- Enter Class Roll
- Enter Grades
- Sign-off Modules (via Student Programs)
- View Student Progress, Attendance and more
Page Navigation And Access Indicators
Not all pages in Version 3 are complete, and not all completed pages are available to every role. During early testing and preview phases, the system intentionally exposes additional context to help users become familiar with new functionality. As development progresses, this behavior will be refined and access will be more tightly aligned with role-based permissions.
In the navigation menu, page availability is indicated using visual cues:
|
|
Blue links indicate pages that are enabled, have content, and are available to your role. |
|
|
A closed black lock icon indicates that the page has content but your current role does have have permission to access it. |
|
|
An open lock icon indicates that the page currently does not have a corresponding legacy permission restricting access. |
|
|
Disabled links without a lock icon represent placeholder pages that are not yet available to any role. |
Instructional Dashboard
The instructor dashboard provides a centralized view of instructor-related activity and class information based on the selected criteria.
From this dashboard, users can quickly filter by instructor, program, status and class date to view relevant student records.

At a glance, summary tiles display key metrics such as student progress, attendance status, completions, end dates, certifications and non-certified learners. The student list below presents detailed information - including student ID, contact details, and program enrollment - making it easy to review class participation.

Class Roll
The Class Roll features the same streamlined layout and includes all helpful student status indicators for quick reference.

Gradebook
The Gradebook provides a centralized view of student academic performance across courses and terms. Instructors and administrators can review enrolled and attended hours, grades, and key demographic indicators using flexible filters such as district, term, course and instructor. The familiar layout supports easy grouping, sorting, and exporting of data, helping ensure accurate grade tracking and reporting.
