Northstar V3: Student Canvas Data

Introduction

The Student Canvas Data page provides a detailed, real-time view of a student's activity and performance within Canvas. This page helps users monitor academic engagement, track course progress, and quickly identify areas where a student may need additional support. With summarized metrics and course-level details, the Canvas page offers a comprehensive view of student's learning activity in one place.

Getting Started

To access the Student Canvas Data page:

  1. Use the Student Lookup panel to search for and select the desired student.
  2. Once the student record is open, select Canvas from the left navigation panel.

Canvas Overview

At the top of the page, the student's Canvas profile and recent activity information are displayed, including login details and last activity date. A Refresh option is available to retrieve the most current Canvas data.

A quick-access Open in Canvas button allows you to navigate directly to the student's Canvas account for additional detail.

Key Summary Metrics

The dashboard provides several summary indicators to help you quickly assess student performance:

  • Average Score - Display the student's average grade across active courses.
  • Active Courses - Shows the number of currently active enrollments.
  • Missing Assignments - Indicates the total number of incomplete or missing assignments.
  • Time in LMS - Tracks the amount of time the student has spent in Canvas.

Engagement Metrics

Additional engagement data provides insight into how actively the student is participating in Canvas:

  • Page Views - Total number of pages viewed within Canvas.
  • Participations - Number of interactions such as submissions or discussions.
  • On-Time Rate - Percentage of assignments submitted on time.

Enrollment Sections

The page organizes course activity in to clearly define sections:

Active Enrollments

Displays all currently active courses, including:

  • Course name and number
  • Missing assignment count
  • Current score
  • Grade (if available)
  • Action buttons for quick navigation

Action icons allow you to view grades or open the course in Canvas directly.

Pending/Invited

Lists any courses where the student has been invited but not yet enrolled. If there are no pending enrollments, this section will display accordingly.

Completed Courses

Displays courses that the student has successfully completed, along with final scores and grades.

Inactive Enrollments

Shows courses that are no longer active. This section provides historical context for the student's enrollment activity.

Helpful Tools

  • Open in Canvas - Quickly access the student's Canvas profile.
  • Refresh - Sync and update Canvas data.
  • Course Actions - navigate directly to course-level details.
