Northstar V3 Overview: Finance
Introduction
The finance section in Northstar Version 3 provides centralized visibility into student and sponsor financial activity. These tools support the review and management of accounts receivable and payable, pending invoices, and daily cash handling. The updated interface introduces improved navigation, easier access to transactional detail, and enhanced filtering to support day-to-day financial operations.
Access to Finance features is role-based and may vary depending on user permissions.

Cash Drawer
The Cash Drawer page provides real-time visibility into daily cash activity. From this page, users can review transactions as they occur, identify voided transactions, and monitor drawer activity throughout the day.
Selecting an individual cash drawer opens a detailed view of all transactions associated with that drawer, including payment types and void history. When closing a drawer, users can record overages or shortages and formally close out the drawer for the day.

The History option displays transaction summaries across all cash drawers, eliminating the need to run separate reports for the same information. This view supports drill-down access to transactional details and includes summary data such as:
- Last close date and time
- Recorded amount versus counted amount
- Over/Short indicators
Filters are available to narrow results by specific cash drawers or to quickly view over/short or voided transactions.

Student Balance
The Student Balance page provides a consolidated view of student-level accounts receivable and payable, along with an aging summary. Users can filter by date to review outstanding balance details and toggle between Outstanding and Aging views using the available options.
This page supports quick identification of balances that require follow-up and help finance users monitor payment status across the student population.

General Ledger
The General Ledger page is designed to support the review of financial transaction by account. While this functionality is still under development, future enhancements will enable users to view summarized ledger activity and drill down into transaction-level details as needed, supporting reconciliation and financial reporting workflows.
